The Fashion Girlie Behind the White Coat

Dear Dr. Fancy Collective,

Let me tell you something that might surprise you - or maybe it won’t at all.

Before the degrees, before the white coat, before the ICU nights and the research presentations…I was a fashion girlie.

I’ve always loved style.
I’ve always loved looking good.
I’ve always loved putting together a fit that makes me feel like me - confident, feminine, intentional, and a little bit extra in the best way.

And here’s the truth: If I weren’t a physician, I would be a fashion stylist.  No hesitation. No second thought.
That’s how deeply I love this. Medicine is what I do. But fashion? Fashion is who I’ve always been.

Why Fashion Matters to Me

People sometimes assume that being a physician means you must shrink the other parts of yourself - the creative parts, the expressive parts, the glamorous parts. But I’ve never believed that.

I believe you can save lives and serve looks.
You can write grants and wear Louis Vuitton.
You can run a code and run a fit check.
You can be brilliant and beautiful at the same time.

They call me Dr. Fancy for a reason.

My Style Philosophy

I’m a mix-and-match girl. I love luxury pieces. The timeless staples. The investment items. The things that make you feel like you’re walking in your purpose. But I also love affordable finds that elevate a look without emptying your wallet.

My formula is simple:

  • a luxury piece for structure

  • an affordable piece for balance

  • a statement piece for personality

  • and confidence to pull it all together

Fashion isn’t about labels.
It’s about intention.
It’s about how you show up in the world.
It’s about honoring yourself - even on the days when life feels heavy.

Why I’m Sharing This With You

Because I want you to see the full picture of who I am.

Yes, I’m a physician.
Yes, I’m a scientist.
Yes, I’m a mentor.
But I’m also a woman who loves style, beauty, and the joy of putting on an outfit that feels like a celebration.

I want this Lifestyle Pillar to be where we talk about:

  • fashion

  • fitness

  • beauty

  • wellness

  • confidence

  • and the parts of life that make us feel alive

This is where I get to connect with you not just as Dr. Duncan, the physician-scientist…but as Dr. Fancy, the woman who loves a good outfit, a good mirror moment, and a good reason to step out looking like the best version of herself.

What’s Coming Next

In future posts, I’ll share:

  • my favorite luxury-affordable pairings

  • how I style looks for clinic, conferences, and weekends

  • fitness routines that keep me grounded

  • beauty and skincare staples

  • and the lifestyle habits that help me stay balanced in a demanding field

But for now, I just want you to know this:

I’m a fashion girlie who happens to be a physician. And I’m excited to bring you into this part of my world.

Signed,

Your favorite doctor’s favorite doctor – Dr. Fancy
